"E Pluribus Unum"

Starting in 2022 and continuing each year until 2025, the US Mint will issue five quarter designs featuring American women whose contributions to society reserved a position in history that merits significant recognition. The women selected for the program come from a variety of professions and backgrounds including suffrage and civil rights activists, artists, athletes, scientists, and educators.

The American Women quarters continues the U.S. Mint successful Commemorative State Quarter program that began 1999. However, the American Women Quarters Program marks the first time that U.S. circulating coinage has been dedicated and based exclusively on the achievements of women.

The process of selecting the women to be featured on the quarters involves a multi-step approach. First, the United States Mint solicits input from the public and various organizations, including the Smithsonian Institution's American Women's History Initiative. The Mint then consults with the Treasury Secretary and other stakeholders to make the final selections.
